Course Presentation
The course will focus on surgical approaches to the long bones and joints of the fore and hind limbs. A series of lectures and videos will introduce to the wet labs on canine cadaveric specimen where the learner can practice the Surgical Approaches, Open Reduction and Plate Fixation following AO principles of simulated common long bones fractures patterns. The
arthrology sessions will cover the approaches to elbow, hip and relative inspection techniques. Xray assessment of the repaired bones will follow the exercises and feedback will be given during the collegial discussion sessions. A unique feature of this course is that
the participants can select which kind of fracture complexity and relave repair technique,
according to their skills, thanks to an “a la carte” menu of opotions. While the beginners may
choose a simpler midshaft pattern, the more advanced can select a juxta articular or
comminuted pattern that will challenge their skills and create learning opportunities.
Target Participants
This course is aimed to both beginner with limited experience in fracture repair and to more advanced surgeons that are willing to challenge and improve their skills. The course represents an excellent opportunity to have “hands on” on cadavers and put in practice what they learned in the AOVET Principles Course.
